Best Budget Tablets with Dual-Core Processors


In the past year, budget tablets have become capable of giving users good performance. To start with, they boast of some impressive specifications under the hood, the Android 4.0 OS and a convenient form factor making them very portable. With the evolution in performance of these devices, a dual-core processor has become a requirement especially if you multi-task and run heavy-duty apps. So here’s a quick look at some noteworthy budget tablets that boast of dual-core capabilities.


1. WickedLeak Wammy Desire

For a tablet priced at Rs. 6,800 the Wammy Desire boasts of some impressive specifications. It has a 7-inch display with 480×800 resolution, 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8 GB storage expandable up to 32GB via a micro SD card, 1.3 video call camera, Wi-Fi, Android 4.1.1. It is one of the first budget tablets to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box. In its performance, it leaves the competition far behind, but it does suffer a bit in terms of battery life.

2. HCL Me G1

Straight out of the box the HCL MeTab G1 has an IPS panel but it is more reflective than we’d like. It has a 9.7-inch IPS display with a 1024×768 resolution, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8 GB storage expandable up to 32GB via a micro SD card, 2MP rear camera & 0.3 video call camera, Wi-Fi and Android 4.0. The device is very smooth to navigate and an ideal device for multimedia use. The downside is that HCL has removed access to the Google Play store in favour of its own app store – the HCL Me Store.

3. Mercury mTab Neo2

The Mercury mTab Neo2 is a well-built tablet that offers some good specifications under the hood, especially the dual core processor and a nice build. It also supports all the possible inputs but runs on an older generation OS- Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). The volume rocker is missing but the addition of the SIM card slot makes the device capable of making calls as well as accessing data without a dongle sticking out of it.

4. Huawei Mediapad

The Huawei MediaPad boasts of a 7.0inch IPS display with 800×1280 pixels resolution, dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. For its price, it is a fantastic device and can be considered as a budget replacement for the Nexus 7. The rear 5MP camera has the ability to shoot videos in 720p HD. The battery is 4100mAh and should be enough to run through the day. With the power under the hood, you can expect to run all the apps from the app store as well as multimedia. Also, multitasking on it is a breeze.

5. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a fantastic device. It hits the sweet spot between the budget tablets and the iPad. It has features and specifications that are totally worth the tablet's price-tag and it is an overall better performer than the Sony Tablet S and the Motorola Xoom. It has a 7-inch display with 1024×600 resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16 GB storage, 3G capability with standard SIM card, 3.15MP rear camera & VGA video call camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and Android 4.0.3. It also uses the TouchWiz UI, which is one of the best skins to have on an Android device. The device is one of the smoothest multitasking tablets we have used.
