Nuance introduces support for ‘Hinglish’ language in Swype

Most Android users have tried and tested the Swype keyboard which relies on quite literally swiping your fingers across the on-screen keyboard. It uses adaptive learning capabilities and smart algorithms to type out the current word and more. Nuance today announced that keeping in mind the Indian market where users tend to mix English and Hindi while messaging, they’ve worked on a special ‘Hinglish’ keyboard. The keyboard has a dictionary of several thousand words which are often used including chai, paani, desi, garam, masti, jungli amongst others.

In addition, the application is much smarter than before due to its added capabilities like Next Word Prediction and Multi-Modal Keyboard which are detailed below.
Next Word Prediction: Nuance has taken everything it learnt from its T9 portfolio and has integrated it with Swype. The end result is a platform which can predict the next word in a message using historical usage data. Prediction accuracy increases over time as the app collects usage data.

Multi-Modal Keyboard: Swype’s multiple input mode means that users can now Swype from letter to letter or rapidly use predice text input. Users can also switch between modalities on the fly which should go a long way in terms of keyboard personalization.
In our usage the Hinglish keyboard worked surprisingly well and we were able to hold a normal conversation using just Swype without having to resort to correcting text manually. Definitely worth trying out ! All Swype users should be able to download the Hinglish language pack by heading to keyboardsettings and then looking under the Download Languages. Head to beta.swype.com to download the app now !

Nightly builds of Firefox Mobile OS now available

Mozilla has started rolling out nightly builds of its upcoming Firefox Mobile OS for users to download. The OS seems to take a lot of inspiration from iOS and Android in terms of UI. In addition, the icons seem to take some hint from Symbian.
While Firefox could stun users with a brilliant browsing experience, we remain skeptical. Between the capabilities of Android and simplicity of iOS and Windows Phone, we find it hard to believe that Mozilla will pose a challenge to any of the other established players. Head on over here to download the latest build of the OS if you want to give it a spin. These are currently meant for developers only so you will some technical know-how to get everything up and running.

iOS 6 Beta 3 allows free app install without Apple ID

Over the last weekend there was word that when Apple delivered the latest iOS 6 Beat 3 to registered developers last week, the new iOS version did away with requiring to have an Apple ID in order to install free applications, as when you want to download a free app, Apple normally required the user to enter their Apple ID or create an account.

According to the guys over at iDownload Blog, having to use an Apple ID simply didn’t make any sense for the ordinary users, and also doesn’t really support Apple’s cut the cord initiative, which enables a user to set up and use an iOS device without iTunes or a computer.

Spike physical keyboard case for iPhone 5

We have often debated on Phones Review the pros and cons of a physical keyboard on a smartphone, and the trouble is the widest range of such handsets available are on the BlackBerry platform which many consumers are now ignoring in favour of Android and the iPhone. Today we have news of the Spike physical keyboard case that will be available for the iPhone 5 once it is released.

As the guys over at iPhone Rumors are suggesting many iPhone owners would never think of placing a physical keyboard on their smartphone, but the team behind the Spike iPhone casethink differently. The Spike iPhone case is another neat gadget that is on the Kickstarter project, and while the late Steve Jobs was never a fan of physical keyboards, a number of third party manufacturers have came up with accessories to offer iPhone fans an option of one.
