Samsung Galaxy S3 Packs Gorilla Glass 2, Now It’s Official

Samsung Galaxy S3 was launched internationally a couple of days ago, and the smartphone enthusiasts have formed lines in front of UK stores in an attempt to get their hands on the Android Ice Cream Sandwichflagship before it runs out of stock.
As you probably know the smartphone packs a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels and until know we didn’t knew for sure whether it’s protected by Gorilla Glass or not. A day ago Samsung have released an official press statement confirming that the display of the Galaxy S3 is protected by the latest generation Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

The first details about the Corning Gorilla Glass 2 display were unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show 2012 event in Las Vegas and the new layer is supposed to come with improved protection and to be 20% thinner than the previous generation.

The guys at Phonearena received a photo from one of their readers, which might be disturbing for the smartphone lovers, picturing Galaxy S3 with a smashed display. We already know that the Gorilla Glass is not the superman of displays, and we don’t know under what circumstances the reader that sent in the photo cracked the display. Anyway, don’t try this at home.

Samsung’s flagship was introduced on May 3rd in London and it will be the official phone of the 2012 Olympic Games. The South Korean company announced record-braking pre-order figures for Galaxy S3 as more than 9 million units will be shipped towards the retailers all over the world.
Besides the 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, Samsung Galaxy S3 packs a quad core 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad chipset, more powerful than any other chipset currently on the market, 1 GB of RAM, 16/32/64 GB of internal flash storage, 50 GB of free Dropbox for two years and an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD video recording support.
But what makes the Samsung device really special are features like S-Voice, S-Beam, Best Photo, Smart Stay, Smart Alert, and many other such treats.
Unfortunately the South Korean phone maker announced that the Pebble Blue Galaxy S3 model will be delayed after they had to destroy 600,000 back lids because the color didn’t match with the front panel.
Thus if are planning to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S3 thinking that it is indestructible, we’d advice you to think twice. There’s no such thing as indestructible glass, at least in the smartphone business.
