MIT students manage to turn bananas into touchpads

If you believe keyboards are too old-school for you and you also don’t like touchscreens, then two MIT students might have a solution for you. They have invented the MaKey MaKey, a kit which allows you to turn virtually every object into a touchpad.

The two final-year MIT PhD students have launched the project on Kickstarter, with the goal of raising $25,000 in funding. While Kickstarted is a very popular website for launching new concept ideas, along with the fact that their is really unique and out of the box, they managed to raised already $360,895 and they still have 11 days remaining. Until now over 7,500 people pledged their concept.
If you are a geek curious to know how this thing works, then you should probably head over to their page where they explain accordingly. But, in short, they use a printed circuit board with an ATMega32u4 microcontroller running Arduino Leonardo bootloader and it uses a HID to communicate with your PC.
If you like the idea and want to help them, you could head over to their Kickstarter page and help them with a pledge. This way you can be one of the first to receive the MaKey MaKey.
To make an idea about how this thing works take a look at the video below to see how they turned some bananas into touchpads. I guarantee you will be really amazed. Though even it looks stunning and it’s really interesting, we couldn’t find an actual use for it, but maybe it’s just us.
