Microsoft Surface With Windows RT And Windows 8 Pro Tablets Officially Unveiled

Last night, Microsoft presented two new own-branded tablets in Los Angeles, California. As I mentioned above the two devices will be retailed under the Redmond-based company’s logo, in a similar way the Nexus line-up is sold by Google, the search engine giant.

Let’s have a look at the technical specifications of the two Microsoft tablets that will hit the market after Windows 8 will make its official debut. The first one will be Microsoft Surface with Windows RT, developed for the chipsets manufactured on ARM architecture, and underpinned by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chipset. The second one – Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 Pro – will debut three months later and it will be powered by Ivy Bridge processors, most familiar for the ultrabook owners.

Microsoft Surface with Windows RT features a 10.6-inch display with HD resolution and a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset, most likely clocked at 1.5 GHz. It will also come with 32 or 64 GB expandable via microSD card slot and it will have the connectivity features of a modern tablet: USB 2.0, WiFi, micro HD video and 2 x 2 MIMI. Microsoft Surface with Windows RT weighs in 676 grams and is only 9.3 mm thick.

The release date was not unveiled but is expected to hit the store shelves after Microsoft launches Windows 8, in the fall of 2012. As about the price, it should be available for a fee able to compete against the other Windows RT tablets.

On the other hand, Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 Pro comes with a full HD 10.6-inch display and is underpinned by a chipset belonging to Intel’s Ivy Bridge line-up. It comes with 64 or 128 GB of internal storage, is 13.5 mm thick and weighs in only 903 grams. It features microSD card slot, USB 3.0, WiFi, Mini DisplayPort and 2 x 2 MIMO. Microsoft Surfacewith Windows 8 Pro release date was set for late 2012 or early 2013.

Both Microsoft Surface tablets are made of magnesium which gives them extra rigidity. Microsoft also presented two new dock-in keyboards: Touch Cover and Type Cover. The first one is a full QWERTY keyboard with a capacitive surface, while the latter one is a physical keyboard.
