Apple Files Patent Lawsuit To Ban Samsung Galaxy S3 US Sale

Apple has filed a patent lawsuit against the South Korean company in an attempt to ban Samsung Galaxy S3 sale on the territory of United States.

But this new legal action hasn’t intimidated the South Korea-based smartphone maker, as the company’s officials said that the launch of Samsung Galaxy S3 will go as planned, writes Wall Street Journal.

It’s not the first time when the two companies meet in a court, as there are more than ten suits involving the two smartphone manufacturers, filed in several countries of the globe.

The Cupertino-based company filed the suit on Thursday, in a Californian court, accusing Samsung thatthe user interface of their flagship smartphone is infringing two Apple patents.

“Samsung believes Apple’s request is without merit. We will vigorously oppose the request and demonstrate to the court that the Galaxy S III is innovative and distinctive,” said Samsung’s spokesman.

But the company co-founded by Steve Jobs maintains its position.

Samsung Galaxy S3 was already launched on 28 markets and the smartphone will hit the US stores today. Even though Samsung are in a hurry to bring their terminal on the North American market, Apple sent their lawyers to an US court in an attempt to block the Galaxy S3 sale, claiming that the device is infringing a Siri and a “data tapping” patent.

Apple also used the “data tapping” patent in a court action against HTC’s One X. The “data tapping” patent is related to the “window” that displays several options for opening a link, phone number, etc. As about the Siri patent, Apple is trying to protect a technology that allows unified searches within the operating system.

I remind you that the US Samsung Galaxy S3 variant is different from the international model. The US version will feature a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 chipset instead of the quad-core Exynos 4 Quad processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, due to the limitations of the 4G LTE chip. The American’s consolation will be the RAM, as the US Galaxy S3 will sport 2 GB of RAM instead of just 1 GB.

Samsung Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording support and loads of treats like S-Voice (Samsung’s response to Siri, the subject of the aforementioned lawsuit), Smart Alert, Smart Stay, Direct Call, and many other such goodies.
