Hacker’s joy as Samsung Galaxy Note ICS code made available

The Samsung Galaxy Note has proven to be quite a successful handset for the company, and is only really rivalled by its smaller sibling the Galaxy S2 and the upcoming S3, but today we have news that Samsung has released the Android ICS 4.0 source code for the device.

Samsung recently completed the process of updating much of its Galaxy S2 handset range although variants of the device are still waiting for the new operating system over in the US, and earlier this month the company started the process of updating the Galaxy Note to Android IceCream Sandwich with the international version of the handset.

iPhone Siri banned by IBM

Well now, it appears if you happen to work for IBM and own an iPhone, don’t expect to be able to use the Siri voice assistant on your iOS smartphone when at work, because the word is IBM has now banned the use of Siri on their internal networks.
According to the guys over at Wired, the reason IBM has taken to banning Siri from their networks is because the iPhone 4S voice assistant sends everything that is said to it back to a large data centre in Maiden, North Carolina.
Apparently Jeanette Horan, the CIO of IBM spoke to Technology Review, stating that the company this week has banned Siri outright because IBM worries that the spoken queries with Siri might be stored somewhere. But it isn’t just Siri that IBM has put a block on as the company has also banned such apps as public file transfer service Dropbox.
According to Wired, Horan is right to worry about Siri, as Apple’s iPhoneSoftware License Agreement states that when a user uses Siri or dictation, what you say is recorded and sent to Apple to convert what you say into text, and apparently Apple also says that Siri also collects unspecified user data and names in a users address book to help Siri perform better.

Copy Files and Folders to CD

To copy files and folders to a CD

•Insert a blank, writable CD into the CD recorder.

•Open My Computer.

•Click the files or folders you want to copy to the CD. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key while you click the files you want. Then, under File and Folder Tasks, click Copy this file, Copy this folder, or Copy the selected items.

•If the files are located in My Pictures, under Picture Tasks, click Copy to CD or Copy all items to CD, and then skip to step 5.

•In the Copy Items dialog box, click the CD recording drive, and then click Copy.

Notes:

•Do not copy more files to the CD than it will hold. Standard CDs hold up to 650 megabytes (MB). High–capacity CDs hold up to 850 MB.

•Be sure that you have enough disk space on your hard disk to store the temporary files that are created during the CD writing process. For a standard CD, Windows reserves up to 700 MB of the available free space. For a high–capacity CD, Windows reserves up to 1 gigabyte (GB) of the available free space.

•After you copy files or folders to the CD, it is useful to view the CD to confirm that the files are copied. For more information, click Related Topics.
To stop the CD recorder from automatically ejecting the CD

•Open My Computer.

•Right–click the CD recording drive, and then click Properties.

Download and install the Galaxy S3 TouchWiz launcher

Everything has been leaked from the Samsung Galaxy S3 and now people starting porting the apps and launcher on other Android devices. Unfortunately it only works on Samsung based ROMs for the moment, so you cannot flash it on AOSP, AOKP or CM9, though developers are currently working on it and soon you will be able to install it on virtually any Android device.
Samsung Galaxy S3 TouchWiz

We’ve tried it on a Samsung Galaxy S2 and it works flawlessly, without any bugs. The Touchwiz 4 launcher is also very fast and can be flashed on your device pretty easy, but you need root access and ClockworkMod recovery running on it.
Remember that before you flash anything you should backup your device, but this can also be done pretty easy using this apps and methods: AppBack to backup and restore applications | SMS backup & restore | Call Logs backup & restore.
First head on to XDA Developers and download the latest TouchWiz UI launcher. Copy the file to your device and then turn it off. Now boot your device in recovery mode by pressing home key + volume up + power buttons simultaneously.
Now go to Install zip from sd card > choose zip from sd card > select the TouchWiz file > Yes. Wait until it finishes flashing the launcher, then reboot your device.
Once your device boots, you can switch to the Galaxy S3 TouchWiz 4 launcher and enjoy it.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Already Available For Purchase In Dubai

The gap between the release date rumors and the actual official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been very long and tiring. There were a lot of rumors which made the potential customers to wonder how the device would look like and what specs it would have. Everybody was relieved as the information about the smartphone was public, from design to pecs and accessory details.

Now, the rumors are all about shipping dates andhands-on videos. It’s clear and confirmed that the release date of the international version of the Galaxy S3 May 29 in Germany. Other markets will have to wait a little  bit longer. The US customers have to be tolerant because the US version of the SamsungGalaxy S3 needs a new CPU in order to be able to use the LTE service and the shipment will be delayed. There is also good news, Samsung’s smartphone will be sold by all 4 major carrier in the US meaning Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Try Android apps before you buy via mobile devices

With the number of mobile applications available on the Androidplatform sometimes you may purchase one only to be left disappointed by it, but now you can try Android apps before you buy via mobile devices.
It has been announced that you no longer need a PC browser to taste apps via Amazon’s Appstore for Android, and according to PCWorld the new beta feature is again being called Test Drive for Android. To make use of the feature you will need a compatible device and the Amazon Appstore fro Android app version 2.6.52 that can be found here.

Internal peek at the HTC One S: video

If you happen to own or contemplating picking up the HTC One S smartphone, and would like to know what the handset looks like inside then you might enjoy the video footage we have for your viewing consideration below, as it is a teardown video of the HTC One S.

The HTC One S video footage comes our way courtesy of the guys over at Engadget and by way of DirectFix, and is the first time we get an internal peek at the Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone as DirectFix shows you how to replace the HTC One S screen.

Apparently the tools required to get into your HTC One S include a Torx T5 and Phillips precision screwdriver, a nylon spudger, and a hair dryer if the displays adhesive is troublesome, and of course very steady hands, and one must also realise that doing such would naturally void any warranty.
Once inside you’ll see the battery pack dominates, along with a blue coloured shield that protects the main board and includes the lens cover, along with numerous fragile components that have to be removed before gaining access to the display so you can separate it from the device.
I’m quite sure you don’t really want me to go through all the shenanigans, and would much rather simply head on down to hit that play button so you can check out getting into the HTC One S for yourself, so I’ll leave it right there and let you get to it…enjoy.

  • In a new window select IPSW file which you have downloaded for iOS 5.1.1 => Click Open
  • It will take some time and Redsn0w will build custom IPSW file for 5.1.1 which will be saved at the same location where your IPSW file was downloaded, the new file name will be starting with NO_BB.
  • To put your device in DFU mode: Connect your iPhone with computer and start Redsn0w go to = Extras => Pwned DFU => Follow the instructions on the screen to put your device in DFU mode

Apple again seen testing FaceTime over 3G

While folks in the jailbreak community have been able to make FaceTime calls on cellular networks for quite some time now, others haven’t been so lucky. Since it debuted in 2010, the video calling feature has remained Wi-Fi-only.
Today, however, evidence has surfaced that suggests Apple is testing a FaceTime over 3G option. The folks over at iDevice posted the above screenshot, which was taken from an error message pulled out of iOS 5.1.1…
As most of you probably know, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen such evidence. Last summer, a similar feature was discovered buried deep down in beta versions of iOS 5. Andwe found similar strings ourselves in iOS 5.1.
Maybe the feature has always been there. It’s just never been activated.
Apple would certainly need to get the carriers’ approval before deploying such a feature. Not only would FaceTime use a large amount of wireless data — which is becoming more expensive, but it would cannibalize profitable voice calls.
Perhaps with the next iPhone expected to run on 4G LTE networks, we could finally see FaceTime set free this fall. But we aren’t counting on it. Carriers seem to be having a hard enough time as it is just trying to deal with iMessage.
What do you think?

Swipe Safari brings OS X Lion inspired functionality to Mobile Safari

Swipe Safari promises to bring OS X Lion’s Safari navigation to the small screen, along with a host of other improved options and abilities.

iPhone Siri UK pathetic so opt for International Locations

Last October when Apple launched the latest version of the iPhonethe company revealed the new Siri voice assistant feature, which made its debut on the iPhone 4S and is currently the only iOS device it officially works on. Trouble is if you have the iPhone 4S and live outside of the US the service is not much use to you, and in the UK its pathetic you cannot search any businesses or addresses at the moment, Siri in the UK is just a waste of time and unless Apple turns on the switch to make it work to its full advantage. Well now there is a new Jailbreak tweak called International Locations for Siri.

iPhone 4S users in the US can use a number of location based Siri functions, but if you live in the UK and ask it where the nearest McDonalds is you have no chance of getting an answer, but the hard working jailbreaking community has found a way to make up for Apple’s shortcomings. An article on iDownloadBlog is reporting about a new Assistant Extensions plugin titled International Locations for Siri, which basically allows users to perform location based searches outside of the US.

London Police to use new software to crack smartphones

While many people now own smartphones since they have become cheaper in recent years, the devices are also used by the criminal community to organise their crimes, but the Police in London are set to use new software to help them crack smartphones.

According to an article over at Techradar the Metropolitan Police is set to introduce new forensic software, which will let officers extract vital information from a suspect’s mobile device in a matter of minutes. The software from Aesco can quickly obtain information on calls, emails, and messaging from a handset, even if the SIM card is locked. This will mean that officers will no longer have to send a handset off to the crime lab for weeks at a time to retrieve such information.
