Internal peek at the HTC One S: video

If you happen to own or contemplating picking up the HTC One S smartphone, and would like to know what the handset looks like inside then you might enjoy the video footage we have for your viewing consideration below, as it is a teardown video of the HTC One S.

The HTC One S video footage comes our way courtesy of the guys over at Engadget and by way of DirectFix, and is the first time we get an internal peek at the Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone as DirectFix shows you how to replace the HTC One S screen.

Apparently the tools required to get into your HTC One S include a Torx T5 and Phillips precision screwdriver, a nylon spudger, and a hair dryer if the displays adhesive is troublesome, and of course very steady hands, and one must also realise that doing such would naturally void any warranty.
Once inside you’ll see the battery pack dominates, along with a blue coloured shield that protects the main board and includes the lens cover, along with numerous fragile components that have to be removed before gaining access to the display so you can separate it from the device.
I’m quite sure you don’t really want me to go through all the shenanigans, and would much rather simply head on down to hit that play button so you can check out getting into the HTC One S for yourself, so I’ll leave it right there and let you get to it…enjoy.

Prepare Your iPhone, iPad and iPod To Jailbreak 5.1.1

Many of us are waiting for the latest 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak which hopefully be released with 1-2 days from now.  If you want  to upgrade your iOS from existing one to iOS 5.1.1 and you need an unlock in future, remember to NOT update through iTunes and direct from your device because it will definitely update the baseband of your device and later if you need you would not be able to unlock.
Instead you should use RedSnow to preserve baseband and create custom IPSW and then use that saved ipsw to restore through iTunes. But if you got factory unlocked iPhone you never need to go through this procedure you can just update normally.
Here is how you preserve baseband:
  • Download 5.1.1 IPSW for your device from Here and download RedSnow from the This page.
  • Run Redsn0w as administrator => Go to Extras => Custom IPSW
  • In a new window select IPSW file which you have downloaded for iOS 5.1.1 => Click Open
  • It will take some time and Redsn0w will build custom IPSW file for 5.1.1 which will be saved at the same location where your IPSW file was downloaded, the new file name will be starting with NO_BB.
  • To put your device in DFU mode: Connect your iPhone with computer and start Redsn0w go to = Extras => Pwned DFU => Follow the instructions on the screen to put your device in DFU mode
  • Restore in iTunes: Open up iTunes and it will automatically detect your iPhone in recovery mode
  • Now Hold SHIFT (Alt for Mac) button and Click Restore Button in iTunes main window.
  • Now browse and select the custom IPSW file  that was created at Step 4 = > Click open.
  • iTunes will now automatically restore your device to iOS 5.1.1 and your baseband will not be updated.

Apple again seen testing FaceTime over 3G

While folks in the jailbreak community have been able to make FaceTime calls on cellular networks for quite some time now, others haven’t been so lucky. Since it debuted in 2010, the video calling feature has remained Wi-Fi-only.
Today, however, evidence has surfaced that suggests Apple is testing a FaceTime over 3G option. The folks over at iDevice posted the above screenshot, which was taken from an error message pulled out of iOS 5.1.1…
As most of you probably know, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen such evidence. Last summer, a similar feature was discovered buried deep down in beta versions of iOS 5. Andwe found similar strings ourselves in iOS 5.1.
Maybe the feature has always been there. It’s just never been activated.
Apple would certainly need to get the carriers’ approval before deploying such a feature. Not only would FaceTime use a large amount of wireless data — which is becoming more expensive, but it would cannibalize profitable voice calls.
Perhaps with the next iPhone expected to run on 4G LTE networks, we could finally see FaceTime set free this fall. But we aren’t counting on it. Carriers seem to be having a hard enough time as it is just trying to deal with iMessage.
What do you think?

Swipe Safari brings OS X Lion inspired functionality to Mobile Safari

Meet the brand new Safari. No, Apple hasn’t made any upgrades to Safari themselves, but you can gain a significantly better Safari browser right now by installing Swipe Safari – a new jailbreak tweak that just touched down on Cydia’s BigBoss repo.
Swipe Safari promises to bring OS X Lion’s Safari navigation to the small screen, along with a host of other improved options and abilities.

iPhone Siri UK pathetic so opt for International Locations

Last October when Apple launched the latest version of the iPhonethe company revealed the new Siri voice assistant feature, which made its debut on the iPhone 4S and is currently the only iOS device it officially works on. Trouble is if you have the iPhone 4S and live outside of the US the service is not much use to you, and in the UK its pathetic you cannot search any businesses or addresses at the moment, Siri in the UK is just a waste of time and unless Apple turns on the switch to make it work to its full advantage. Well now there is a new Jailbreak tweak called International Locations for Siri.

iPhone 4S users in the US can use a number of location based Siri functions, but if you live in the UK and ask it where the nearest McDonalds is you have no chance of getting an answer, but the hard working jailbreaking community has found a way to make up for Apple’s shortcomings. An article on iDownloadBlog is reporting about a new Assistant Extensions plugin titled International Locations for Siri, which basically allows users to perform location based searches outside of the US.

London Police to use new software to crack smartphones

While many people now own smartphones since they have become cheaper in recent years, the devices are also used by the criminal community to organise their crimes, but the Police in London are set to use new software to help them crack smartphones.

According to an article over at Techradar the Metropolitan Police is set to introduce new forensic software, which will let officers extract vital information from a suspect’s mobile device in a matter of minutes. The software from Aesco can quickly obtain information on calls, emails, and messaging from a handset, even if the SIM card is locked. This will mean that officers will no longer have to send a handset off to the crime lab for weeks at a time to retrieve such information.
